Pigs Fly and Pioneer Making LCDs [Kuro]

In case you missed it, part of the news about Pioneer’s radical restructuring includes this shocker: The Kings of Plasma are about to start making Pioneer and Kuro branded LCD displays using Sharp’s technology. Boom!
They’ll also do Blu-ray players together, and Japan Sharp Cellphones will work with Pioneer’s in car nav systems. The first fruits of such collabs will be seen in CEATEC 2008 in Fall.
Progress on Business Alliance with Sharp Corporation
As part of a comprehensive business and capital alliance formed by Pioneer and Sharp
Corporation in 2007, the two companies are conducting joint product development by
making effective use of each other’s resources in their respective fields of expertise. The
overriding goal is to enhance the corporate value of both companies.
In the field of flat-panel TVs, for example, Pioneer is taking part in Sharp’s
development of acoustic systems for ultra-thin, flat-panel TVs. By leveraging […]

MobiTV Tries to Shutter Howard Forums Over Posted URL [MobiTV]

MobiTV is the mobile TV provider for Sprint, which costs $20 a month. They’d keep content they charged you for protected, so freeloaders couldn’t swoop in and pick up the same streams, right? Wrong. By punching in qtv.mobitv.com/sprintTVlive.mcd, anyone with the right phone can access the streams. That info was posted on Howard Forums, and now MobiTV is claiming that posting that information violates their intellectual property rights. So they’re trying to shutdown Howard Forums entirely. Clarification: Sprint tells us that they had “nothing to do with this situation.”
Howard Chui, the site’s founder has always complied with requests to pull down bootlegged software, so he’s not a willy-nilly copyright violator. It’s kind of like the HD DVD key debacle last year, except the stench of bullshit is even stronger, since we’re just talking about a frickin’ URL that MobiTV and Sprint didn’t take even the most basic cautions to […]

Etch-A-Sketch Clock Automatically Draws the Time [Toys]

The Arduino platform has been the basis of some awesome projects in the past, but I have yet to see an application of the technology that is more fun than this Etch-a-Sketch clock. At the beginning of every minute, the device draws out the time in a matter of seconds and then erases it to start the process all over again the next minute. Fan freakin’ tastic. [Make]

Bloxes: Lego-Like Cardboard Tech For the Office [Furniture]

Legos are awesome as we all know, but trying to build an entire set of office furniture out of them could pose a bit of a challenge. That’s where Bloxes come in. These cardboard modular building blocks can be assembled into furniture like desks, chairs, cubicles, and dividers for the office—and their interlocking design makes them strong enough to handle just about anything.

The concept is interesting, but I would imagine that it might take a significant amount of time to construct anything on a large scale, not to mention the fact that an entire office made from this stuff would look extremely bizarre. At the very least, one would hope that Bloxes would offer a most cost effective solution that purchasing traditional furniture—but at $60 for a pack of 20 I’m not so sure.
