At a cocktail-fueled event at the chic furniture store Design Within Reach in NYC, I got to play around with Geneva’s trio of wood-cabinet iPod-dockable sound systems: the Model M, Model L and Model XL. The recently announced $500 M is the most compact of the line, but still seemed a bit hefty compared to other iPod docks we’ve seen. (Maybe the company is leaving room for a Model S somewhere down the road.) The M’s sleek Euro design and clean lines make it attractive, especially in glossy fire-engine red. Its seemlessly integrated CD player and under-grill LED display add to the smooth aesthetic. Compared to the Model L and the big, fat (expensive) Model XL, the M didn’t have the same bass kick, but overall the sound was very rich and warm. You saw the winner, now it’s time to see the runners up of our Inappropriate Gizmodo Browsing contest. The theme was reading Gizmodo in the most inappropriate place you could think of, and many of our readers took that to mean either reading us at work or while having sex. In fact, there were four different entries of Gizzing during sex, one of them being topless. If one of these entries is yours and you’ve changed your mind about being shown off for the public (and your boss) to see, email me and we’ll take down the picture. Otherwise, hit the link to see all the juicy Giz goodness. Thanks to everyone who entered!

Joy of Tech’s apparently drinking the same OLPC haterade everyone else is this week, though it rags on OLPC’s triumphant aftermath rather than the program’s recently harped on shortcomings. Hit the jump to see the one year later snap/potshot.

The Rundown: The Cowon A3 PMP looks to be a full sized PMP (5 inches across its long side) competitive in nature with its 4-inch, 800 x 480 screen and industry standard features including generous DivX support among other formats, text file viewer, photo viewer with support for huge files and USB host mode, audio recorder with built in mic and MP3/OGG/AAC music support.
The Catch: At $350/$400 for 30/60GB, this much PMP doesn’t come cheap. [Download Spec Sheet]

Ever drove by one of those billboards on the highway advertising fireworks or a strip joint and said to yourself “I could live up there?” Well someone named Brendan O’ Grady has. In fact, his idea for a billboard-like living module earned him a victory in the Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation competition, which is apparently some big-whig architectural rendering contest.
The Aeroform as he calls it, features a streamlined design for “optimal aerodynamic and climactic performance.” Even the name is derived from the term “aerofoil” which refers to a structure that provides stability or a steering function in a flying object. The whole thing even looks like some sort of aircraft intake if you ask me.
No doubt that something like this would be really fantastic to live in — that is until you stumbled out of your house drunk at 4am and tumbled head first into the abyss. Probably a [...]
