After geohot published his method on hardware unlocking the iPhone, a web site called iphonesimfree came out of nowhere to announce that their group had successfully managed to unlock the phone via a software method. Fact or fiction?
The iPhone has been successfully software unlocked.
Fact, it turns out. So says Engadget.
“iPhoneSIMfree.com team called us up to prove their claim that they cracked Apple’s iPhone SIM lock system, and prove it they did. (No, we don’t have a copy of the unlock software, so don’t even ask us, ok?) The six-man team has been working non-stop since launch day, and they’re officially the first to break Apple’s SIM locks on the iPhone with software. It’s done. Seriously.”
According to Engadget, the software unlock not only allows any SIM card to be used in the iPhone, but is also “restore and upgrade resistant” as well as being lightning and fire immune.
As may be expected, […]

When you needed a extra boost of battery power for your mobile phone, you had to resort to a third-party solution: disposable batteries, solar charges, or even a foot crank. No longer.
Designed by Nokia so you don’t have to rely on foot-crankin’ to power your dead battery.
The Nokia Power Pack DC-1 at a Glance
Accessory Type: Charger
Acessory Compatibility: Any Nokia phone with a 2.5mm interface
Expected Cost: 105 Euros
Buy From: ??
Nokia announced the Power Pack DC-1, a squarish device that either resembles a pillbox or MD player, I’m not sure which. Designed to give you power when a travel charger is not an option, the DC-1 holds what Nokia calls “the equivalent of three batteries.” Wow!
Unfortunately, Nokia’s equivalent of three batteries is a mere 960 mAh - isn’t that equal to 1 battery? No matter. The power pack will let you charge your two devices at the same time, and supports the […]

Forget the small fry. Big Kahuna gaming publisher Capcom is joining Nokia’s N-Gage platform and will produce games from what sounds like some of the more popular franchises.
Legendary game publisher Capcom will join the N-Gage platform.
“Capcom is dedicated to creating great mobile games, and believes that N-Gage will allow us to bring some of
our most famous franchises to the platform. Our dedication to quality and creative thinking has seen the company produce a series of ground-breaking titles, with stunning visuals and in-depth game play, never before seen on the mobile”.
Its most famous francises being Street Fighter, Street Fighter, and…you guessed it: Street Fighter. But you can also add Mega Man, Resident Evil, and one random oddball franchise that has you taking the role of a defense attorney (Phoenix Wright).
On a side note, I really can’t think of many new, original games that have been published by Capcom. Lost Planet and […]

Another day, another Nokia Bluetooth GPS Module. The LD-4W is the latest in Nokia’s Nseries accessories line, sporting looks similar to the N93i.
Nokia’s new Bluetooth GPS unit. Cool and expensive.
And let’s face it: the new Bluetooth GPS module looks a hell of a lot better than the old ones, case in point:
The Nokia Bluetooth GPS Module LD-4W at a Glance
Accessory Type: Bluetooth GPS
Acessory Compatibility: Nokia Nseries
Expected Cost: 125 Euros
Buy From: ??
Smaller than the previous iterations but just as functional, the LD-4W is meant to be a replacement for that bulky, boxy, or squatty GPS unit in your car (not counting the nuvi, of course). It’s usable with any Nokia phone that supports Bluetooth and the Maps software, which more or less means any Nseries model.
Bluetooth GPS’ are versatile devices, in that you can hook them up to your Nokia phone, but also your laptop - which I estimate is […]

After Nokia’s crushing ball of press releases was set in motion combined with a nicely timed market upswing, shares of Nokia stock (NYSE: NOK) rose 7.23% to a new 52-week high of 32.18. And a little cherry on top in after hours trading.
This of course follows a nice decline in the stock in the past weak, mainly due to a general weakness in the markets. You can probably work the terms “credit crunch” and “subprime mortgages” into that statement too.
Nokia wasn’t the only receiver of good news - most handset manufacturers were up today (Motorola +1.86%, Research in Motion +5.98%). Even Palm, maker of the widely-hated device called the Foleo, was up about 2.5%.
